Who are your favorite flutists? What do you like about their playing and their personalities? Listening to musicians you admire and pieces you enjoy can keep you inspired to practice! This week, I encourage you all to use your ears and follow your hearts to find players you enjoy. Don’t know where to start? Try searching for “flute” on YouTube! Also, flute professors at colleges are almost always performers, too. Try searching YouTube for college faculty performances at music schools!
Carol Wincenc, flute professor at The Juilliard School and Stony Brook University, is one of my favorite flutists. I admire a lot about her, especially her musicianship, tone, and wonderful personality. I hope to someday be as talented a performer as she is! (Also, she also has the most fabulous recital dresses. #dressgoals)
To kick off this inspirational listening week, here is a video of Carol Wincenc performing a piece I love, Duo for Flute and Piano by Aaron Copland:
Have a wonderful week!
