Stephanie Hoeckley is an award-winning flutist and teacher in the Phoenix Metropolitan area. Recognized as a skilled performer, Ms. Hoeckley placed 1st in the Arizona Flute Society’s 2017 Young Artist Competition and has been a finalist in the Florida Flute Association’s College Young Artist Competition and Advanced Masterclass. She recently performed in Carol Wincenc’s recital at Arizona State University; having the time of her life performing a trio with two of her all-time favorite flutists, Carol Wincenc and Elizabeth Buck.
Despite having degrees in Music Performance, Ms. Hoeckley is a passionate and engaging music educator. She is currently the Adjunct Flute Professor at Phoenix College, a sought-after clinician at various flute camps and courses, and teaches at the Colorful Clef Flute Studio, her active private studio with members ages 8-70+. Ms. Hoeckley is a member of the Arizona MusicFest Wind Quartet, an educational outreach ensemble that performs around the Valley. Valuing service and community, she is on the board of the Arizona Flute Society and is a member of the National Flute Association and the National Association for Music Education.
Currently, Ms. Hoeckley is a Doctoral Candidate at Arizona State University pursuing a DMA degree where she studies with Elizabeth Buck. She holds a Master of Music in Music Performance from Arizona State University and a Bachelor of Music in Music Performance from the University of Central Florida. Her previous flute instructors and mentors include Carol Wincenc and Nora Lee Garcia.
As an orchestral musician, she has been principal flutist of ASU’s Symphony Orchestra, Wind Orchestra, and Lyric Opera Theater Pit; also principal flutist of UCF’s Wind Ensemble, Flute Choir, Wind Quintet, and Chamber Orchestra; and a member of the Desert Echoes Flute Project and the Florida Bandmaster Association’s Intercollegiate Band. She also frequently subs with local ensembles, such as the Symphony of the Southwest, Chandler Symphony, and the Mill Ave Chamber Players.
Ms. Hoeckley has performed in masterclasses for flutists such as Ian Clarke, Linda Chesis, Leone Buyse, Marianne Gedigian, Nina Assimakopoulos, Nicola Mazzanti, Carol Wincenc, Deidre McArdle-Manning, Gary Schocker, Robert Dick, Aaron Goldman, Catherine Ramirez, Viviana Guzman, Andrée Martin, Peter Sheridan, and Conor Nelson.
Her interests include creative problem solving, Alexander Technique and physiology, acoustics, flute repair, performance psychology, and reducing the stigma and myths around autism. In her spare time, Stephanie enjoys movies, making polymer clay art, learning, reading, and enjoying life with her two rescue dogs.
